Threads & replies
A thread is a focused side-conversation attached to one message. Instead of a dozen replies piling up in the main channel and burying everything else, the back-and-forth tucks neatly under the message that started it. Think of it as pulling a small group into a corner to hash out one point, while the rest of the room carries on.
Why threads matter
Section titled “Why threads matter”In a busy channel, replies to different topics get tangled together fast. Threads untangle them: each thread holds one line of discussion, so the main channel stays readable and you can follow a single conversation from start to finish without scrolling past unrelated chatter.
Reply in a thread
Section titled “Reply in a thread”- Hover over the message you want to respond to and click the Reply icon.
- A thread panel opens, showing the original message and any replies so far.
- Type your reply and send it. Mentions and attachments work here just like in the main chat.
Your reply lives in the thread, not the main channel — so the people following along see it in context.
Watch a thread
Section titled “Watch a thread”If a thread matters to you but you weren’t the one who started it, you can watch it. Watching means you’ll be notified of new replies, even if you’re not mentioned. It’s the gentle way to stay on top of a conversation you care about without having to check back manually.
Who gets notified
Section titled “Who gets notified”- People already replying in the thread, and anyone watching it, are notified of new replies.
- Anyone you @mention in the thread is notified, whether or not they were following it.
This keeps thread notifications relevant — you hear about the threads you’re part of, not every thread in every channel.
One level deep, on purpose
Section titled “One level deep, on purpose”You can’t start a thread on a message that’s already a thread reply. In other words, threads don’t nest inside threads.
